Broadfoot

The members of popular Far North Coast band are drawn from Mullumbimby, Murwillumbah and Byron Bay (formerly Lennox Head, until the recent tornado left John literally without a roof over his head, and inspired the move up the coast a ways).  Ever attuned to the vibe of their diverse audiences, Broadfoot aim to satisfy the soul with a heady ever evolving collection of danceable intelligent original material – their song “The Timeless Groove” (a pulsating trip from mythological Greece to the cricket fields of 1970′s Australia via Elizabethan England) took out this year’s NCEIA Dolphin Award in the Funk category, with the band also garnering a finalist nomination for Best Emerging Talent.

The Ocean plays an important part in the music of Broadfoot. Many viewings of classic surf films, appreciating the beautiful combination that surfing footage and great music make is something that has had a big influence on the songwriting of drummer Trent. Trent has participated regularly in the ‘Morning of the Mo’ surf events in Ballina – a men’s health awareness and fund raising campaign whereby competitors ride a pre 80’s surfboard, with prizes, giveaways and much 70’s fashion, culminating in a big night in Byron where the party leaves the water and hits the dance floor. This year Broadfoot will be lending their support to the cause by playing at the after event party.
